At the start of this month, Western Cape Regional finalists- Claudia Degenaar and Lara Potgieter accompanied Miss Earth South Africa Educational officer and SANCCOB Ambassador Ella Bella to the Southern African Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) centre in Table View.
Claudia and Ella spent the morning cleaning pens, while Lara assisted in the cleaning of the Chick Rearing Unit. After the cleaning, the team assisted in the preparation of meals for the penguins. The day was rounded off with an opportunity to interact with the centre’s resident ambassadors, Kia and Rocky, as well as to observe the rehabilitation of a pelican with neurological damage. Lara has been selling Penguin Warrior bags on behalf of SANCCOB, and will be returning to the centre with the proceeds this week.
Celebrating their 10th Year Anniversary, the Miss Earth South Africa in association with Consol have been supporting SANCCOB for the past five years. The protection of this highly endangered species is very important to the organisation and remains a key area of focus. Trees for Zambia
For three weeks in July 2012, Greenpop is hosting a reforestation project in
Livingstone, Zambia; the country with the second highest deforestation rate
in the world. We will plant 5,000 to 10,000 indigenous and fruit trees, and host
valuable educational sessions for children and subsistence farmers. This will
be the start of an ongoing campaign to make Zambia a greener and more
sustainable place. For more information click here
